Famous in Love review

So Bella Thorne made a show where she plays a nobody-turned-celebrity and a good chunk of the cast play very famous people, yet they are significantly less famous than she is in real life, kind of funny how that worked out.

This series is actually really different from the book. First of all, Book Paige is 17 years old and still in high school. Second, Locked is filmed in Hawaii because it’s about August and her long time friend (played by Rainer) being the only survivors of a plane crashing into an island.

Also, Paige is supposed to be super tiny and Rainer is supposed to be extraordinarily chipper and Jordan is supposed to be the sexiest man alive who Paige has this strangely deep connection with. Her family is referenced more, her two best friends not only start dating but are hardly mentioned at all, and Rainer’s mom pretty much just jumpstarts the story and disappears. Also, Tangey does not exist.

So that’s the book.

And it’s a good story, for sure. But I like the show more. Paige is more likable. She’s quirky and determined and has all this endless energy and innocence.

I”m just going to say I love the ship name Raige because it’s awesome. However, I respect Paige’s decision to wait until the filming wraps before she and Rainer figure out if they should actually be together in real life.

They have some breathtaking moments, like rehearsing their dance scene and that bedroom scene and every time he smiles at her. But by the last episode, he loses it. His life starts falling apart and Paige deserves better than getting caught up in the middle of that big hot mess.

I kind of think she’ll get together with Jake for a while and then she and Rainer will have their moment later.

I thought it was interesting how instead of putting Paige between Rainer and Jordan, the love triangle consists of Rainer and Jake. Jordan is at the head of a different triangle. It spreads out the drama more, makes it more interesting. Jake kind of takes Book Rainer’s role as charming friend and Rainer becomes Book Jordan, the dark and mysterious celebrity she can’t stay away from.

It’s a very dramatic story, then again, it’s Hollywood.

I really enjoy seeing all the behind the scenes stuff with the whole film process. It’s fun to see Paige audition and deal with suddenly being famous. She has this new job and lifestyle she needs to adjust to. It’s still a novelty for her to wear gorgeous gowns and meet celebrities.

She’s just a fun character and cute kid. She is determined to keep her life as normal as possible, while still somehow having seriously amazing hair and makeup all the time. She’s not ready to let go of her friends and make new famous friends. She doesn’t understand everything that goes on with the film, but she learns fast. Paige is smart and happy, focused on working hard and loving the people around her. She’s a great person to have at the head of the show and I can see why Bella Thorne would work so hard to make her a reality.
